Phone Number Ownership

A phone number can only be owned by one Contact within Rhinogram. Anytime a text message in sent into a Channel enabled in your Rhinogram account, that message will be recorded in the thread of the Contact that owns the phone number used to send the message. A Member can easily change the phone number ownership while creating a new Contact or editing an existing one.

Can I create a contact with the same phone number as another?

Yes, contacts can have the same phone number but only one contact can be the owner of that number. At the point of creating a Contact with a phone number that is associated with an existing contact, a Member can assign ownership. This flow is applicable when creating a contact from scratch or while editing an existing contact's profile.

How do I see who owns a phone number for an existing contact?

When a Contact's phone number is associated with other Contacts, a Member can view/change the ownership in the Contact's profile summary and jump to the profile of the other contact in the organization

How do I change phone ownership from one contact to another?

  1. Search for  the contact you would like to have ownership of the phone number.

  2. In the profile summary on the right hand side, you will be able to see that the phone number is associated with other contacts. To see these contacts, select view.

  3. Select the contact in which you would like to have ownership of the contact. An example of the desired owner would be the parent or guardian of the family in which you will be communicating with.

  4. Click Update Ownership and you will now be able to text the new owner of the number.
